GE Healthcare Completes Acquisition of Sanesco
18 May 2010 GE Healthcare Completes Acquisition of Sanesco, a Leading Healthcare Advisory Services Company in France
A strategic decision to foster a complete solutions offering; developing and delivering new ways of organizing, measuring and managing healthcare delivery
PARIS, May 18, 2010 — Today, GE Healthcare, the healthcare business of General Electric Company (GE), announced the acquisition of the Compagnie française de Gestion de Services de Santé – Sanesco SA, a leading French healthcare advisory services company with over 20 years experience. With more than 600 public and private customers, Sanesco is a key player in the French healthcare market. Combining Sanesco’s clinical strategy capabilities along with GE Healthcare’s experience in performance and process improvement, this acquisition creates a broad and unique offering in the national healthcare market. Terms were not disclosed.
“This acquisition is a great move towards the development of our capabilities in strategy, clinical excellence and hospital financial planning, thereby strengthening our solutions platform in France. This will further strengthen our response capabilities to French customer needs like improving quality of care, increasing access and improving capacity in diagnosis and delivery of care, while also reducing costs,” said Laurent Amiel, General Manager EMEA, GE Healthcare Performance Solutions.
GE Healthcare’s Performance Solutions business delivers leading methodologies and technologies in operational excellence, Lean Six Sigma and change management to healthcare providers and payors. Application of such expertise in hospital operations has proven in the past its potential to significantly improve efficiencies and quality like improvement of patient throughput in an operating room by 15-20% and more, or an increase of 30% in the number of patients scanned in diagnostic departments, while cutting waiting times in half.
Benefiting from a strong reputation, Sanesco’s consultants, many of whom are medical practitioners, support their public and private customers to redefine their clinical strategy (e.g. focus activity portfolio towards more dedication to oncology or cardiovascular care), in order to achieve enhanced quality and economically viable operations. Sanesco also provides advisory services to regional and national health authorities on healthcare organization design and strategic decisions. For example, defining how to relieve hospital based care by implementing home care in a cost effective manner.
“GE Healthcare Performance Solutions and Sanesco are highly complementary. Our specialized consultants are strong in healthcare strategy and diagnostic advisory services and GE is broadly recognized for its world-class capabilities in implementation and performance management. With GE Healthcare’s proven track record in the US, the UK, Scotland, France and also in Saudi Arabia for improving hospital efficiency we are confident that our combined know-how will strongly reinforce our offering and positioning in France. ” said Jean-Yves Guedj, President, Sanesco.
With this acquisition, GE Healthcare continues to strengthen its position as a key player in healthcare advisory services, and, in particular, in its response to the tender program of the Agence Nationale d’Appui à la Performance (ANAP). The ANAP program aims at improving process efficiency, quality of care and increasing staff satisfaction in more than 50 public hospitals across France. The consortium led by GE Healthcare, which already included Sanesco, has been selected to bid for the major public healthcare improvement and change programs initiated by the French government.
“With GE Healthcare and Sanesco combined capabilities we strengthen our reputation as practitioners providing a broad range of advisory services from strategy to implementation. By building out our Performance Solutions capabilities we continue to position GE Healthcare as a solutions provider, delivering new ways of organizing, measuring and managing health care delivery over the full cycle of care. This results in better quality, efficiency and access for healthcare providers and policy makers, which is the core of GE’s ‘healthymagination’ strategy,” said Jan De Witte, President & CEO, GE Healthcare Services, EMEA.
